Spireites away at FC Halifax

After rumour in abundance the Spireites trip to Halifax was given the go ahead after a 3.30pm pitch inspection. At the end of the night we were wishing the rain had won. Both managers wanted the game to be on. Not sure Paul Cook was of that opinion afterwards.

Halifax started on the front foot on a ploughed field of a surface. Grimes managed to clear off the line early doors. That should have been the warning of how to play on the night.
However, it was the Spireites who drew first blood when another run inside from Colclough hit the post and Grigg forced home. At that point, we were Champions, but any ideas of that were certainly swept away as Halifax came back to score 3 before half time with goals from Harker (2) and Oluwabori. Every goal was a gift and could have been avoided in brutal honesty.

.

The second half kicked off, and the Spireites faired a little better. But on 66 minutes, yet another gift from Williams saw the home side break, and Cosgrave nonchalantly poked home for the 4th.
Berry cane on for the injured Colclough, Quigley for Hobson, and Palmer for the injured Williams as Paul cook threw all his eggs into one basket to try and get something out of the game.
Berry did grab a second, Grigg missed two chances, Berry’s shot went wide. There were a few goalmouth scrambles as pressure was finally applied to put Halifax finally under pressure. But by that time, the game was well out of reach. Summerfield, Evans and Wright came on for the Shaymen as they saw the game through.
Desperately disappointing night for the Spireites, but as at Dorking, they got what they probably deserved? Nothing

Card count: Grigg (for leaving the field injured without permission), Grimes, Dobra and Tyrer for the Spireites. Golden, Harker, Senior and Johnson for Halifax

Corner count: Halifax 6, Spireites 9

Attendance: 4103 with 2,304 travelling. More away than home fans.

Next up the elusive point needed is Boreham Wood in front of a sell out crowd at the SMH Stadium
