EXETER V CHESTERFIELD F A CUP 2ND ROUND – 30.11.24

Not to be. The Spireites made the 500 mile round trip hoping to cement a place in the 3rd round of the FA Cup for the 4th year on the trot. However the Grecians under ex-Spireites manager Gary Caldwell had other thoughts.

2 clearances off the line from Grimes and 2 saves from Thompson kept things level. But on 47 minutes, a corner from the right side, saw Crama head home unmarked at the back post.

The Spireites didn’t manage a shot on target during the whole of the first half. Hopeful that the second half would see abandonment and just go for it with nothing to lose.

It sort of huffed and puffed for a while, but never really came off. A short pass from Banks put Oldaker under pressure. His control let him down and Exeter ran through and Magennis fired home. Dobra had a half chance to pull one back but it wasn’t to be. Good to see Sheckleford and Horton get game time but the Grecians ran out comfortable winners.

52% to 48% possession in favour of the home side.

14 shots on target to 4 in favour of the home side.

Francis and Woods saw yellow for Exeter as did Oldaker for the Spireites.

456 travelling fans in a crowd of 4782 came home feeling disappointed.

On to Mk Dons Tuesday and back league action.
