The new season is just around the corner and the Spireites’ pre-season training continues. After a training camp in Marbella, it’s back to the good old British summer to get the squad ready.
We officially start on Saturday the 6th July, away, with the annual pilgrimage to Matlock. Forest are the first visitors the SMH Group Stadium on the 13th followed by an away trip to Alfreton on the 16th. Further home games against Sheffield United on the 20th and Derby County on the 24th provide stiff and testing opposition for boss Paul Cook to refine and experiment.
Finally the Spireites travel to Scunthorpe on 2nd of August. Then that’s it for the friendlies.
Obviously further training and adjustments until the big kick off which is against Swindon Town under the lights…..and it’s live on Sky Sports!!!!
EFL trophy draw sees the Spireites pit their wits against Lincoln City, Grimsby Town and Manchester City U21s in the group stage.
Carabao Cup draw is a great local derby against the Rams at Pride Park.
The excitement is starting to build now as the return to the EFL is just around the corner. Expect maybe another couple of signings. ‘Keeper Sam Hornby is/has been on trial.
