MORECAMBE V CHESTERFIELD 26 OCTOBER 2024

Colclough, Mandeville and Madden replaced Berry, Banks and Grigg as the Spireites headed to the seaside looking to do everything in the right order.

And off to a great start when Markanday scored with a slightly deflected shot past the home keeper on 8 mins. However it was short lived and the celebrations were muted when Tollitt headed home on 10 mins from a slightly dubious free kick. Morecambe caused more than a few problems as Dackers saw a lot of the ball from long kicks out of the home defence. Araujo battled bravely to keep him at bay.

Oldaker gave the Spireites the lead again on 48 mins from a low well-placed free-kick. That lead lasted 13 minutes as Morecambe broke (too easily) on their left wing and Naylor unfortunately slid the ball past Thompson to make the own goal 2-2.

Morecambe did get a head of steam but substitutions change games. This was certainly the case as Berry cut inside and placed a wonderful shot past the keeper. Same player then put Dobra through for the 4th and finally control was wrestled. Grimes made it a handful on the 89 minute.

It wasn’t quite as easy as the score line suggests but the last 20 minutes were superb.

P.S. That lob from Berry that hit the bar? Outrageous but had it gone in?
