BROMLEY V CHESTERFIELD – 01-10-24
The Spireites’ boss was forced into changes because of injuries to Devan Tanton, Harvey Araujo and Dylan Markanday. Paddy Madden and Armando Dobra were on the bench. Jamie Grimes, Vontae Daley-Campbell, Ryan Colclough, Michael Jacobs and Will Grigg came in.
Some decent-ish passages of play saw the Spireites slightly better for the first ten minutes, but as is the norm here at Bromley, it was the home side that took the lead on 14 when Olomola used his height to head home. There was an air of here we go again.
However the Spireites levelled on 19 mins, after a great passage of play from Jacobs, from the middle out to Vontae on the right and the cross was neatly poked him by Grigg. Both keepers had “moments” first half. Boot was rescued by Dunkley and corrected his second error by blocking the cross. Smith’s moment in the Bromley goal was the one that led to the second goal. He dallied far too long on a back pass and Grigg picked his pocket to slide home into an empty net for the Spireites to go in 2-1 in front at half time.
Second half needed 15 minutes consolidation but again it wasn’t to be. The free kick came towards the back post. Centre half again rose high above the defence. The ball originally hit the post and eventually fell for Cheek to score his customary goal against us. Rest of the game was a hard fought 40 minutes and neither side really looked like finding a winner. Although Madden’s outrageous lob from the half way line only found the roof of the stand. And it finished even at 2/2.
Another disappointing draw from a winning position.
