DONCASTER ROVERS V CHESTERFIELD FC – Saturday 29-09-24
The Spireites had too much power for the Rovers as they attempted to avoid a third consecutive defeat on the road.
Madden, Mandeville and Araujo came in to replace Drummond, Metcalfe and Berry.
Cheered on by over 3,000 very vocal travelling fans, the atmosphere was electric as the game got underway. It took about ten minutes, with the Spireites on the front foot, to wrestle control in the game. A shot from Naylor and great work from Markanday on the right put the Rovers defence under pressure.
Finally on 31 mins, Chey Dunkley with his first Spireite goal, from a Mandeville free kick, saw the opening goal. Madden saw yellow (very relevant for the second half) for kicking the ball away. H/T 0/1.
Second half, consolidation was the hope, as Banks replaced Tanton. The cause was helped greatly when Molyneux (on a yellow) was flagged offside. Stopped playing – however he then kicked the ball away (second yellow and therefore red card). Great consistency from referee Bell.
Madden penalty on 59 min – his first for the club. Then again a little bit of help along the way as ex-Spireite Tom Anderson saw red for what we think was violent conduct. Berry made it 3 goals to complete a brilliant away day and victory.
Banks, Grimes, Berry, Colclough and Grigg all came on for the Spireites.
Spireites – Madden and Berry saw yellow. For Doncaster – McGrath, Fleming Molyneux 2 yellows and red. Anderson straight red.
Possession wise: Donny 41 Spireites 59.
Attendance: 10,790 with a very vocal 3,027 travelling.
Great day and performance, and as a few players are now coming back from injury, the Spireites can finally announce that the EFL can ‘look out’!
On to Bromley on Tuesday night. A place we always look forward to going (not).
Full time Rovers 0 Spireites 3.
9th place with 12 points is a nice steady start for me.
