Port Vale v Chesterfield – 14.09.24
The Spireites suffered their second and consecutive away defeat of the season at Vale Park. Wasn’t the best of days, as they never really got going against a big strong but theoretically decent Port Vale side. The Spireites were basically out-fought, out-thought and bullied far too easily.
The only goal of the game came on 11 minutes when Chislett slipped the shoulder of his marker (slight suspicions of offside but I don’t think so).
That was to remain the score for the remainder of the game. What was worrying was that Grigg limped off at half time to be replaced by Drummond. Jones, Mandeville, Araujo and Jacobs came on but to no avail.
Statistics make interesting reading.
Vale 13 shots 5 on target. Spireites 4 with 0 on target.
Clear cut chances: Vale 2 Spireites 0. Boot had 3 saves to make, Ripley had zero.
Possession: Vale 38% Spireites 62% Which proves possession doesn’t win games.
Port Vale’s Juno, Chislett, Tolaj, Garrity, Stockley and Paton saw yellow. No cards for the visitors.
Attendance was 7976 including 1434 travelling Spireites who saw probably the worst performance of the season as Vale ran out 1-0 winners.
2 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats thus far this season. 8 points and sitting mid table. Up next Cheltenham at home on TV and hopefully a couple of injured players may be ready including new signing John Fleck will be game ready to put some much needed experience and metal into the side.
